SonicBlue Rugby Bluetooth Speaker

12:06 AM Posted by - No comments
Greeting everyone! I am here again and today I am going to review a Bluetooth speaker , the SonicGear rugby which I got it about a month ago. I’ve been hearing for a month now and I am going to post a honest review about it, and we are not associated with sonic gear in anyway. THIS REVIEW IS PURELY BASED ON MY OPINION. As I am not an expert in this aspect , I will not be able to test it out very specifically, I will post it as a casual consumer looking for a good bluetooth speaker.

The specification of the Bluetooth speaker is listed as below:
Total system power: 10W
Bass Driver : 3” 2 Ohm
Satellite Drive: 2” 4 Ohm
Frequency response :30Hz-20KHz
S/N Ratio : >=80dB
Distortion : <=0.3% (1W 1KHz)
Voltage: DC5

What comes in the box
  • SonicBlue rugby
  • Power adapter
  • 3.5mm to 3.5mm male to male
  • Rex stand(not in photo)
  • User manual

Design & Functionality
When I first saw the SonicBlue Rugby, it look fantastic to me. It is one of the reason I chose to buy it because I can’t really test out other bluetooth speaker out in the shop. It sports a design which looks like a rugby ball, A PREMIUM RUGBY BALL I WOULD SAY. It looks cool, and a good addition beside my bed. It is much bigger than normal Bluetooth speaker , I don’t know really why but I am really pleased with the design!  On the front there is only four button which is the volume up/ next song button, volume down/ previous song button, mode and power on/off button. On the back, there is a usb port for pendrive, SD card player , 3.5mm jack and lastly it's power supply. The build quality of this sonicblue rugby is quite good although it was made out of plastic for most parts.

Audio quality
Now, for the audio quality, i am not an expert in judging audio quality so don’t expect a really detailed review from me. I would say the sound produced by the Bluetooth speaker is decent, good enough for casual listener like me, although I have to say it is lacking bass at low volume. As you crank up the volume, the bass tend to stand out more, which is a good thing. I have been testing it out for almost a month now and I am really pleased with it’s audio quality.  The vocal produced by it is clear and crisp. On the volume side, this Bluetooth speaker is no loser, it is more than enough.I max out the volume and I’m pretty sure it can be quite loud.

Conclusion
The audio quality of the sonicblue rugby would not blow you out of the water but it is certainly able to replace your laptop speaker and your smartphone speaker. One problem about this bluetooth speaker is that when you left the sonicblue rugby idle for a period of time, it will have a 'pop' sound when u reconnect it to your phone. It is not a big issue but sometimes it may be pretty irritating to hear but it is bearable so no worries. I would say that price fits perfectly for the sonicblue rugby. THE RPP of this Bluetooth speaker is RM129. Another alternative to this is the sonicgear dock 100&200 which is both priced at rm149.(was planning to get one of those but I didn’t get to test it out at the shop. Sonicgear will you please send me one? :D If you are in the market looking for a Bluetooth speaker but doesn’t want to spend too much, this might be perfect for you. But for best experience for your ear, I still recommend to buy a piece of good earphone/headphone.

Pros

  1. Good sound quality
  2. Affordable pricing
  3. Pleasing design
Cons
  1. Bigger than ordinary bluetooth speaker
  2. Annoying 'Pop' sound
  3. Unable to pair several bluetooth device simultaneously
